Ms. Myrtle’s Bakery (formerly Not Jus’ Donuts Bakery)
Ms. Myrtle’s Bakery is a Black‑owned bakery proudly based in Houston, Texas, built on tradition, perseverance, and a deep love for bringing people together through baked goods. The bakery was founded on December 8, 2000, by Myrtle Zachary Jackson, who opened the business under its original name, Not Jus’ Donuts Bakery. Beginning with donuts, pastries, cookies, mini bundt cakes, and pies, Myrtle created more than a bakery — she created a space where every treat reflected home, comfort, and care.
As customer demand grew, celebration cakes were added to the menu, and the business quickly became part of many family milestone moments, from birthdays to weddings. Over the years, the menu expanded to include a wide variety of homemade baked goods, including cakes, cheesecakes, pies, cobblers, cookies, and more. Many of the cherished recipes used today are family recipes passed down to Myrtle and now carried forward by her daughter, Andrea Jackson.
Following Myrtle’s passing on September 29, 2021, Andrea stepped fully into leadership as Co‑Founder and President, determined to preserve and expand her mother’s vision. In early 2024, Andrea faced a pivotal decision — whether to close the doors or continue despite the challenges of loss, the post‑COVID business climate, and rising costs. Guided by her mother’s lifelong mantra, “Quitting is not an option,” Andrea chose to persevere.
To honor her mother’s legacy, Andrea renamed the business Ms. Myrtle’s Bakery, placing Myrtle at the heart of the brand she built. Today, the bakery continues to stand as a living tribute to its founder, remaining focused on tradition, quality, and community while creating desserts that turn everyday moments into sweet memories — one baked good at a time.
