Serious Sounds, Etc. was established in 1991 out of an expressed desire to provide the local area with a retail environment that catered to the African-American community of music lovers, shoppers and buyers. Over the years, record stores across the country have dwindled to only a handful, but yet Serious Sounds has managed to stay alive and thrive thanks to the supportive customer base, and the meticulous personal service that they take great pride in offering to each individual that enters through their doors.
They have been located in the South Park community for 29 years with the stated goal of keeping the legacy and history of Black music alive! They offer CD's, Cassettes, Vinyl, Custom Mix CD'S, Digital Downloads as well as mp3 and mp4 file USB loads. For the culture, they also carry a variety of Books, Oils & Fragrances in the form of incense burning oils for home use, scented body oils, air fresheners and sage smudge sticks. There is also stock artist t-shirts, music & vinyl accessories, and occasionally they still throw concert events and artist meet & greet promotions; when the opportunity arises & time permits. The year 2021 will mark the 30th Anniversary in the same location and as the only remaining Black-owned record store in Houston, TX.
