Dennis Chachere Dennis Chachere  is Black History because his life reflects ownership, resilience, and the reclamation of Black presence in spaces where our contributions have long been overlooked. He is not only preserving Western heritage. He is actively reshaping who gets seen, heard, and valued within it. A third generation cowboy from Houston, Dennis was raised in the Black Western tradition where riding, roping, and community were a way of life. His grandfather brought horses from Louisiana to Pleasantville and helped establish one of the city’s early Black trail ride groups, the Prairie View Trail Ride Group, which proudly participated in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo parade. From an early age, Dennis learned that rodeo was not just sport. It was legacy. Dennis carried that legacy into professional rodeo as a calf roper, representing Houston on circuits across the country. His authenticity and presence recently reached a national audience when he was featured as a model in Wrangler’s Spring 2026 campaign, bridging historic Black cowboy culture with modern Western style. Beyond the arena, Dennis is a builder and entrepreneur. He is the CEO of Four Arrows Saddle & Apparel , a Black owned Western brand rooted in culture, craftsmanship, and storytelling. Through Four Arrows, Dennis helped launch the powerful “Rodeo Saved My Life” campaign, celebrating resilience, mental health, and the real stories behind Western sport. Together with his wife and business partner Ahsaki Chachere, Dennis also serves as CFO of LaChachere Music Group , a full service country music company spanning record label services, publishing, creative direction, and artist management. The company was created to amplify authentic Western voices, particularly Black and Indigenous artists who have historically been sidelined by the mainstream music industry. Dennis and Ahsaki’s work exists at the intersection of culture and correction. At a time when the origins of country music and Western culture are being re examined, they are ensuring that Black cowboys and artists are no longer erased from the narrative. Charlotte Kelly Bryant Charlotte Kelly Bryant  is Black History because her life’s work is rooted in preservation, service, and the protection of community legacy. She is not only a steward of history. She is a living bridge between generations who ensured that an irreplaceable Black institution in Houston’s Third Ward would remain a place of access, safety, and belonging. As Executive Director and Founding Board Member of the Blue Triangle Multi-Cultural Association , Charlotte Bryant leads an organization grounded in the principles of community, service, and legacy. Under her guidance, the Blue Triangle Community Center continues to operate as a safe environment where children, youth, adults, and seniors can meet, learn, and recreate. Charlotte’s connection to the Blue Triangle began decades ago. As a young African American girl in the 1940s, she was encouraged by teachers and mentors to join the YWCA and participate in programs centered on civic engagement, leadership, and history. Those early experiences, reinforced by values learned at home about being a good neighbor and serving others, shaped a lifelong commitment to community uplift and historical preservation. When the historic Blue Triangle YWCA branch building at 3005 McGowen Street was placed at risk due to loss of funding, Charlotte knew action was required. Alongside fellow former YWCA members, she helped establish the Blue Triangle Multi-Cultural Association, Inc. and intervened to secure ownership of the property. In January 2000, those efforts were rewarded when BTMCA became the official owner of the historic site, including the Dr. John T. Biggers mural, antique furnishings, and surrounding property. This act safeguarded a space originally purchased by ten African American women for $1,000, ensuring their vision would not be erased. The Blue Triangle Community Center, located in Houston’s Third Ward, spans more than 21,000 square feet and includes a gymnasium, commercial kitchen, natatorium, classrooms, offices, and meeting spaces. Following significant damage from Hurricane Harvey, the center underwent a major interior renovation completed in March 2023. Today, it stands renewed and ready to serve the evolving needs of the community while honoring its historic roots. Under Charlotte’s leadership, Blue Triangle MCA has maintained longstanding affiliations with the Blue Triangle Garden Club and Blue Triangle Quilting Guild and continues traditions such as the Annual Breakfast with Santa and learn to swim programs that have existed for more than half a century. At the same time, new initiatives have been introduced to meet present day needs. These include arts, culture, and education programming highlighting Dr. John T. Biggers, financial literacy workshops, health clinics for the uninsured, benefits enrollment assistance, senior health fairs, and celebrations of Juneteenth, Earth Day, and National Senior Citizens Day. Charlotte Bryant has been involved with the Blue Triangle for more than eighty years. Her leadership reflects consistency, courage, and care for the collective good. Through programs for youth and adults, fitness and wellness initiatives, and the continued expansion of arts and cultural education, she has ensured that the Blue Triangle remains a living institution rather than a forgotten landmark. Major General John H. Bailey II Major General John H. Bailey II  is Black History because his life represents service, sacrifice, leadership, and legacy in motion. He did not simply rise through the ranks of institutions that historically excluded Black Americans. He transformed his experience into opportunity for generations to come. Commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army on May 10, 1967, after completing Officer Candidate School at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland, Major General Bailey returned to serve with the renowned 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. His military career reflects both courage and command. He completed overseas assignments in Germany and served two combat tours in Vietnam during some of the most turbulent years in American history. During his first tour in Vietnam, he led soldiers as a platoon leader and company commander with the 101st Airborne Division. On his second tour, he served as a United States Army fixed wing aviator with the First Aviation Brigade, flying reconnaissance, surveillance, and search and destroy missions over Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. At a time when Black officers were underrepresented in aviation and combat leadership, he proved excellence was not an exception but a standard. The final twelve years of his military career were spent serving the Military Forces of the State of Texas. There, Major General Bailey continued to lead at the highest levels, holding roles including S 3 of the 2nd Battalion 8th Brigade, Commander of the 8th Brigade, Deputy Commanding General for Operations and Training, and ultimately Commanding General of the Texas State Guard. His leadership helped shape operational readiness and training across the state while setting an example of disciplined, principled command. Education has always been central to his mission. Major General Bailey earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautics from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and a Master’s Degree in Education Administration and Supervision from Alcorn State University. He is also a graduate of the Army’s Basic and Advanced Airborne Schools, Fixed Wing Aviators Course, Ordnance Officers Advanced Course, and the Command and General Staff College. His academic and military preparation positioned him to lead not only in uniform but in institutions that shape the future. In 2001, Major General Bailey founded Bailey Military Institute, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preparing the next generation of aviation and aerospace professionals. BMI was created with a clear purpose: to equip young people with the skills needed to design, construct, process data, develop software, assess avionics, pilot, research, and manage the NextGen air transportation system. The vision extends beyond training. It is about building a nationally recognized aviation research center rooted in access, innovation, and excellence. Through Bailey Military Institute, Major General Bailey has championed workforce development in airport management, air traffic control, and the civilian use of unmanned aerial systems and drone technology. The organization promotes the responsible and ethical use of drones while advancing education, research, and collaboration across industries.
